How do I get the excess billing on my meters permanently off since I did not consume light in the said period of over a year due to transformer problem?

Dear Geraldine, The law allows you to contest your bill if you believe they do not correctly reflect your electricity consumption, and to get the excess amount knocked off your account record. To kick start the process, write a letter to the Customer Complaints Units of your Electricity Distribution Company (DisCo) requesting a review of your bill and for the necessary adjustments to be made. Please ensure the letter is acknowledged by an official of your DisCo and keep a copy of the acknowledged letter for yourself. Give your DisCo 15 working days to respond to your request. If nothing has been done at the end of the 15 days or the response from your DisCo is unsatisfactory, escalate the matter by a written petition to the Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, Port-Harcourt Forum Office (the address can be found in the link below). The petition should contain your name, phone number, email, EDC account numbers, as well as a full narrative of the issue. Also attach to the petition a copy of your previous letter to your DisCo and copies of the contested bills. Ensure that the petition is acknowledged by the secretary of the forum or any designated officer. After submitting this letter, wait. You will get a notification SMS or email from the Forum informing you of the date fixed for your hearing. You do not need to do anything extra to get this date. Do not offer gratification. The process is seamless. However, if there is any delay in notifying you, you can call the Forum office on the number provided or send an email. NERC regulations require that every dispute must be settled at first instance within two (2) months of the date of presentation, so if you initiate this process immediately, it is likely it will be resolved before the end of September 2018.
