How long should it take to get a prepaid meter installed. My application has rested with PHCN or its successor for over one year.

By law, your distribution company is supposed to install your meter within 10 working days after receiving your application. Section 2 of the NERC Customer Service Standards of Performance for Distribution Companies 2007 provides that a DISCO shall take measures to install a meter and connect power supply to a new premises within 10 working days of receiving a request from a customer. This provision is rarely observed by the DISCOs, though. Under Section 18(3) of the Meter Asset Provider Regulations 2018, which came into effect on April 3, 2018, if a customer pays the full cost of the meter upfront, the meter asset provider company has to install it within 10 working days after receiving the full payment. By failing to deliver your meter within the stipulated time, your distribution company has breached the Industry Standards of Performance. At this point, you are at liberty to initiate a complaint against the company to the NERC FORUM Office, Port Harcourt.
